First we heard the tale of the adorable yet abandoned ginger seal pup who was born a bit different, then shunned, and luckily rescued by a friendly photographer; and now we have a similar story about a featherless baby penguin from China.
This adorable yet sad baby penguin was born without any feathers at the LHT Pole Aquarium in China’s Liaoning Province, and was abandoned by his parents shortly thereafter. However, the good part about being born this way at an aquarium is that there are trained penguin specialists nearby who can step in and be the penguin parents this little guy deserved. So the aquarium’s team of penguin keepers took the featherless penguin under their wing (puns!) and determined he couldn’t digest food properly and needed some help getting more nutrients.
The team took turns feeding him around the clock, and after a month the penguin keepers had successfully nursed him back to health. He did so well that his feathers grew in and he was even welcomed back by his penguin family. Of course, it would have been a little nicer if his jerk family didn’t reject him to begin with, but it’s a happy ending and restores my faith in humanity for a minute or two, so I’ll take it. And look how happy he is now!
