You may remember the story a few months back where an adorable Emperor penguin friend beat the odds and swam from Antarctica all the way to New Zealand. They nicknamed him Happy Feet, in a pretty crazypants instance of life imitating art, and since he was not in peak physical condition by the time he arrived in NZ, the nice folks at Wellington Zoo have been nursing him back to health. Now that he is once again ready show that ocean who is BOSS, the real-life version of Happy Feet is about to start the long journey back home. But not before the zoo gives him an adorable farewell party of course!
Guests attending the goodbye bash are encouraged by the zoo to wear appropriate Penguin Colors for the affair, set to happen this Sunday. Hopefully sushi will be on the menu, but no word on that yet.
And don’t worry, they aren’t taking Happy Feet to the pier and tossing him into the surf, he’s getting a ride on a special research boat along with a few of his caretakers to ensure he’s in top shape, and close enough to “home” to hopefully make it back safely. They are also fitting him with a tracking device so perhaps we’ll learn even more about this adventurous penguin’s future travels. Good luck little buddy!
